Hullooo there all! tripped over this community, so I decided to join!! And I have something I really need to say. In the most recent rp, last Sat (bah I'm bad with numbers) Envy spoke for a few seconds. And it was late but....I think it was a FEMALE'S VOICE . I was a little tired, and it was a deep voice, but definitly female. I almost broke my tv.

Uh, Envy has a female voice in the Japanese version too.

And I like Envy's dub voice XD

I realize it's female in the dub, but it's not the same thing. In English, it's,like, drastically different with a girls voice and a guys voice. O.o I can't explain well

Actually, if you go to Japan and listen to what the real guys there sound like, they're just as masculine as the guys here. It's not any more common for a Japanese guy to have a voice like Envy's than it is for an English-speaking guy.

(And yes, I have learned this from firsthand experience.)

Hear hear.

And this is besides the fact that Envy actually uses vaguely girly speech patterns while speaking *laughs*

Eeeee... I feel like that I've backed myself into a corner with theses comments. The reason I got mad is I just thought they were trying to make Envy into a girl. And since Envy is one of me faves, I got a litte pissed.

Oh yeah...

Well, to begin with, Envy in his homunculus form isn't even supposed to have a gender. He's supposed to be androgynous, neither male or female. So there's no way they COULD turn him into a girl, if they were remaining loyal to the series. Plus, neither of the voice directors have said anything about turning Envy into a girl, so your fears are a bit unfounded.

The problem with how you worded what you posted here is that most people on this community really LIKE the dub and enjoy most things that are being done with it. We just occasionally make fun of lines and the rare miscast for a character. We don't hate you. ^.^;;;

Believe it or not, I don't actually have a problem with the dub. And I'm glad I'm not hated. I was afraid of that.

There's a couple rabid ones who refuse to change their first impressions, but those are mainly dub-hater types or people who just can't get their brains to accept a diff voice for a character no matter how many times they try.

Us pro-dub types only get our ire raised when someone sounds like their spazzing over something that isn't a big of a deal as it may first appear.

But other than that. we're mello like Kaitou girl here said.

*now has a song stuck in her head from "In The Groove" a DDR style game, just with English songs* "Have you ever smoked a big fat cuban cigar? Have you ever hitched a ride on a shooting star? Have you ever seen read when you should have seen yellow? Whoa-oh! Have you ever been mellow?"

Yes, it's a silly song. But that's gotta be one of the funniest opening lines for a song that I've ever heard. XD

I didn't know about it...but does that mean they're trying to make Envy female, like they did in Salior Moon. (Well...it was a different company...but still)

No, that's not what it means. I think the voice sounds androgynous anyway. They aren't trying to make Envy female.

Yes, what they said.

They're just trying to make Envy's voice similar to the original Japanese (unlike the drastic changes of voice-sound for, say, Ed).

Low voice from a female voice actor = what they did for Envy in both Japanese and now the English.

Androgynous. I know there are people out there that when they first saw Envy when watching fansubs, they were uncertain of his gender. (Some thinking he could be a girl, others just with-holding judgement until something more obvious clued them in.)

PS: Funimation is striving to be a true to the content, story, etc etcetc, soul, etc, of FMA as possible when dubbing. They'd NEVER to such a change in things cuz they'd become victims in a bloody massacre no fandom has ever seen before.

The only things they change are things for flow and timing with speech and other similar tweaks--dialogue stuff. *knows from talking with people from Funimation who work on FMA* Trust me, they wouldn't dare do such a drastic (and unneccessary) change.

Yeah, actually, we talk to them a lot in AIM chat. At least one of the voice actors or Mike McFarland, one of the voice directors/actors, drops in. If you want to join us, the chat is fmadub.

Yep. We've chatted with Mike McFarland (Havoc/voice director), Vic Mignogna (Ed), and Travis Willingham (Roy).

Travis and Mike have livejournals, as do Kyle Hebert (Falman), Monica Rial (Lyra -- either her LJ is friends only or she RARELY posts), and Chris Patton (his character hasn't been announce yet, but it will be in a day or so, and I predict that he's the voice of Greed).

As you can see, I've stalked plenty of people involved in FMA.

And apparently Mike will go voice actor hunting at Kazekosidufs a con this weekend--there's still some characters that appear later in the series they haven't even gotten voices for yet. (I wonder who's going to be Moofy/Wrath....)

cpatton
gohanvox

and if those don't work right, attack my LJ info page and pillage my friend's lift.

Chris apparently recently broke up with his girlfriend and Kyle just bought a PSP, and a week or more ago got a voice over for something that qualifies him to join some voice acting union and thus more money but then he won't be able to take new non union rolls--except for stuff at Funimation cuz he has a contract with them.

I am SUCH a stalker. XP
